I first encountered Ousia Lab’s Supercritical CO2 extractor in the Fall of 2023 in my chemical separation class. Every group in my class got to do an overnight extraction of our choosing. We extracted mint, lavender, rosemary, rose petals, orange peel, and vanilla. I was amazed by how fragrant each extract was. I am familiar with some of the steam distilled extracts from lavender, rose petal, orange peel as well as liquid extracted and concentrated vanilla oleoresin. I’ve purchased these in the past to make my own beard oil. The CO2 extracts my classmates and I made were a 1000 times better smelling than anything I’ve purchased off Amazon.
The LBV1 a.k.a Little Buddy 1.0 is a freaking workhorse second to none. The unit I use was brought to school in the spring of 2023 for research purposes. I picked up the research project in the fall of 2023 when the person before me graduated. In total I’ve used my Little Buddy for about 17 months. It has been running 24/7 I can personally attest for about 12,000 hours of constant operation without fail. There was one time I needed my machine serviced. It was due to operator error and plant material plugged up an internal valve. The customer service at Ousia Labs is awesome. They helped me diagnose the problem and it was determined that my Little Buddy needed service. When I got it back it was as good as new, and I immediately put it back to work doing extractions 24/7.
Using supercritical CO2 extraction for my research has taught me the sustainability of using CO2 as a solvent. It is the most environmentally friendly way to make an extract. CO2 is infinitely recyclable and can be easily taken from the air so there is no pollution made by creating solvent waste that must be properly disposed. After I graduate this spring I’m hopefully headed to graduate school to get a PhD in chemistry and the first thing I plan on buying after I get a job is a supercritical CO2 extractor from Ousia Labs. They have excellent customer service and stand behind their product, which is a combination of company traits rarely found these days. The time I have spent with Ousia Labs has proven to me the robustness of their extractor. I am eager to finish school, start my career, and make my own beard oil with the best CO2 extracts possible.
